Russian court will consider the issue of extradition of Whelan, convicted of espionage in the United States

The Fourth General Court of Appeal will consider the transfer to the United States of Paul Whelan, convicted of espionage. This is reported by TASS with reference to the lawyer Olga Karlova.

“The Fourth General Court of Appeal will consider the issue of transferring Whelan to the United States for further serving his sentence on November 8,” she said.

Earlier it was reported that Paul Whelan’s defense filed a petition to the Supreme Court of Mordovia to extradite the accused. However, the sun did not consider it. The defense appealed against the refusal. Press secretary of the Fourth Court of Appeal in Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterina Terebilova, confirmed that the Supreme Court of Mordovia had sent the material.

Paul Whelan, a citizen of the United States, Canada, Great Britain and Ireland, was detained on December 28, 2018. The Moscow City Court found him guilty of espionage and sentenced him to 16 years in a strict regime colony.
