Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov visited the Russian Foreign Ministry on Smolenskaya Square, TASS reports.
It is noted that the diplomat spent about 20 minutes in the department and left, refusing to comment.
As you know, Antonov was invited to the Foreign Ministry for consultations on the development of Russian-American relations against the background of previously imposed US sanctions and Moscow’s retaliatory actions.
On April 15, the head of the United States, Joe Biden, signed a decree on the introduction of new anti-Russian sanctions, under which 10 employees of the Russian diplomatic mission in Washington are to be expelled from the country. In addition, the US Treasury announced restrictive measures against 16 organizations and 16 individuals, which, according to the US authorities, are linked to Russia’s alleged interference in the US elections.
In turn, the Russian Foreign Ministry published a list of responses to the sanctions imposed by the United States and the subsequent actions of NATO countries. The list of countermeasures, in particular, included the expulsion of diplomats.
