The Russians detained near Minsk may be employees of the private security company, which under contract guards energy facilities and resources abroad, reports RIA Novosti, referring to the statement of the Russian Ambassador to Minsk Dmitry Mezentsev.
He clarified that this information is now being verified.
The diplomat said that Russian citizens were on their way to a third country in transit, but missed their flight from Minsk airport, so they had to stay at the Belorusochka sanatorium.
“The reason for their arrival in the country was a contract concluded with one of the commercial firms, which is registered here in Belarus, and each of the Russians who arrived had an employment contract with this enterprise,” Mezentsev explained.
He noted that he had sent a note to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry demanding to promptly provide Russian diplomats with access to the detained citizens.
Mezentsev said that he was waiting for evidence from the Belarusian law enforcement agencies that substantiate the need to detain the Russians.
We will remind, on the eve of Belarus, detained more than 30 foreigners who were allegedly employees of a private military company. Later Russian embassy in Minsk received an official notification of the detention of 32 Russians.
Today the Security Council of Belarus said that in relation to Russian citizens a criminal case was initiated under the article on preparing a terrorist attack. According to the investigation, they may be involved in the organization of riots in the country.
