Russian Ambassador explained the situation with the Russians detained in Belarus

The Russian Ambassador to Belarus Dmitry Mezentsev said that the detained Russians were not involved in the events related to the socio-political situation in the republic, RIA Novosti reports.

On the eve it was reported that the law enforcement agencies of Belarus had detained 32 employees of a foreign private military company near Minsk, and another person was detained in the south of the republic. The Russian embassy in Belarus has received an official notification of the arrest of 32 Russians.

Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko instructed the head of the KGB, Valeriy Vakulchik, to deal with the detention of foreign citizens. Russian Senator Vladimir Dzhabarov said that Moscow has never had and cannot have plans to destabilize the situation in Belarus.

Today, the Security Council of Belarus reported that a criminal case was opened against the Russians under the article for preparing a terrorist attack. The Investigative Committee clarified that the detainees could be arrested. According to the Belarusian investigators, they may be involved in organizing riots in the country.

Also on July 30, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry held meetings with representatives of the diplomatic missions of the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
