Russia will continue to seek the release and speedy return to the country of Russian Viktor Bout, who is serving a 25-year sentence in the American Marion Prison in Illinois.
Representatives of the Russian Embassy in the United States announced this on the official Facebook page of the department, congratulating Bout on his 55th birthday.
“We do not cease to believe that justice will prevail. We will continue to seek your release and return to your homeland as soon as possible,” the message says.
Recall that in 2008, Bout was detained in Thailand, after which he was extradited to the United States. There, the Russian was sentenced to 25 years in prison and a $15 million fine on charges of criminal conspiracy to illegally sell weapons and support terrorism. Bout himself denies all the charges against him.
Earlier, Russian diplomats also visited Bout in an American prison.
