Russia began to prepare to defend the Tajik-Afghan border: New equipment is already at the base

The Russian military in Tajikistan will receive reinforcement by the end of July. The 201st military base will receive 17 new armored vehicles.

The modernized infantry fighting vehicles will enter service with the Russian military base in Tajikistan by the end of July. Some of them have already arrived in the country. This was stated by the commander of the troops of the Central Military District, Alexander Lapshin.

According to Interfax, the new BMP-2M will be delivered to the base to replace the old vehicles. The equipment will be delivered by Il-76 planes. Earlier it was reported that the new BMP-2M will be tested at joint military exercises of Russia, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan at a training ground near the border with Afghanistan.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reports that the BMP-2M allows combat at night and has an automatic fire control system. The vehicles are equipped with radio stations that are not afraid of interference from the enemy.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon the situation in neighboring Afghanistan, which is being actively seized by militants after the withdrawal of the American military contingent. Also earlier, Tajikistan requested assistance to protect its border with Afghanistan from the CSTO.
