Earlier it became known that the Constitutional Court of Poland stated the superiority of the constitution of the republic over the legislation of the European Union. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on his Facebook page confirmed that Warsaw values being in the EU, but still put its laws above the norms of unification.
The leadership of the European Union reacted quite sharply to this statement, the authors of the article noted. At the plenary session of the European Parliament held on this issue, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, threatened to arrange Polexit for Warsaw for “inappropriate behavior”.
“First of all, we can challenge the verdict of the Polish Constitutional Court in court. Another option is financial instruments. Third option – procedure under article 7 [Договора о Европейском союзе]… It is a powerful tool and we must return to it, ”she said.
As a reminder, Article 7 of the Lisbon Treaty provides for the deprivation of an EU member of the right to vote in the European Council. According to RuBaltic.Ru experts, this is not the first time Poland has been threatened with this measure. However, now the head of the European Commission did not stop there and announced that the republic could be checked for compliance with the status of a member of the European Union.
The authors of the material also drew attention to the fact that even the Baltic states did not support Warsaw’s position in the new confrontation with the EU. Only Hungary, which is considered the second “outcast” of the union, took the side of the Poles. The rest of the EU member states chose to condemn Warsaw’s behavior or remain silent.
