The Central Scientific Research Institute of Precision Engineering (TsNIItochmash, part of Rostec) has developed a new 9 mm silent armor-piercing cartridge for the pistol ” “Boa constrictor” with a reduced bullet speed, the Rostec press service said.
“The new ammunition is capable of penetrating body armor of the 2nd protection class, while maintaining at the same time, increased indicators of invisibility of the shot, ”transmits TASS message to the state corporation.
The cartridges were developed as part of the development work on the Boa constrictor pistol.
“The innovative solutions used in the cartridge ensured its recognition as an invention – a patent was received for a new munition,” the Rostekh noted.
The bullet of a new cartridge pierces the bulletproof vest of the 2nd class of protection with a silent and flameless shot.
“This is achieved due to the fact that when creating a cartridge the bullet mass was increased, a cutting edge formed by two flat faces was added at the front end of its core,” explained to the press service.
The corporation was reminded that existing cartridges for silent shooting do not penetrate body armor of the 2nd protection class due to insufficient bullet speed – about 50 – 200 m / s.
Bullets that penetrate such body armor fly faster than 290 m / s, which does not allow silent fire.
Recall that in January the Ministry of Defense reported that the party from of the latest “Boa constrictor” pistol complexes will be transferred to the Ministry of Defense from the manufacturer this year.
