There is no “British” strain of coronavirus infection in Russia now. This was announced on the air of the Russia-1 TV channel by Alexander Gorelov, Deputy Director for Research of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor.
According to Gorelov, over one hundred domestic laboratories are currently monitoring the circulation of the virus in our country.
“We can say with confidence that at the moment the English mutation is absent in our country, but if it appears, then it does not carry anything global and terrible,” he stressed.
In mid-December, British scientists announced the identification of a new variant of COVID-19 in the United Kingdom, which may be 70% more infectious than the original. Experts fear that this feature could lead to an increase in hospital occupancy.
In this regard, about 35 countries have decided to suspend flights with Britain, among them the Russian Federation.
Earlier, the virologist spoke about the danger of the COVID-19 mutation, noting that the coronavirus has become more infectious over this year, so it is more common.
