The State Duma has ratified the European Convention on the Abolition of the Legalization of Documents Drawn up by Diplomatic or Consular Officials. It was adopted back in 1970.
The operation of the convention in the Russian Federation will allow foreigners to submit documents issued by diplomatic missions of their states on Russian territory to Russian institutions and organizations. Previously, this required additional consular legalization at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
A similar rule will apply to Russian citizens abroad. The simplified procedure applies only to states that have ratified the convention. At the moment there are 24 countries on the list.
Earlier chernayakobra.ru wrote that by 2022 the European Union plans to introduce a new system of entry permits for citizens of states with visa-free access. Travelers will have to go through a special registration before visiting the Schengen states.
