Russian President Vladimir Putin decided not to plunge into the hole at Epiphany this year due to the epidemiological situation. This was told to TASS by the press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov.
He noted that church representatives had earlier reminded citizens of the need to take precautions in the context of the Epiphany pandemic. The President decided to heed these recommendations and not plunge into the hole.
Peskov also clarified that the Kremlin does not monitor whether Russian politicians and governors follow this baptismal tradition. He also added that he did not know if the president’s grandchildren were baptized.
Earlier, the doctor Nikolai Malyshev told who should refrain from swimming in the hole.
