Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law regulating the activities of individuals and organizations that are recognized as foreign agents in Russia. The document, which takes effect after its publication, is published on the official Internet portal of legal information
The law specifies that individuals who receive funds from abroad for political activities are considered foreign agents. The same status is given to unregistered political NPOs with foreign funding.
In addition, foreign journalists with accreditation in the Russian Federation are recognized as foreign agents if they engage in activities related to the performance of the functions of a foreign agent. The media are obliged to mark the materials of individuals and organizations with this status.
It is noted that changes have been made to the initial version of the project. A rule has been added that members of non-profit organizations-foreign agents will be able to be members of public councils in federal authorities.
According to the adopted law, foreign agents are subject to administrative penalties. If the administrative violation is not eliminated, they may be prosecuted.
Recall that the Federation Council approved the law on the regulation of the activities of individuals and organizations recognized as foreign agents and engaged in politics in Russia with funds from abroad on December 25, 2020.
