Putin: Russia intends to multiply the cargo traffic along the Northern Sea Route

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the country intends to multiply the cargo traffic along the Northern Sea Route, the role of which is growing against the backdrop of climate change, industrial growth in the Asia-Pacific region and the need to provide the most cost-effective routes for the delivery of goods from East to West and vice versa.

Speaking via video link at the UN conference on sustainable transport, Putin said that Russia will multiply the freight traffic along the entire length of the Northern Sea Route (10.5 thousand km), as well as build infrastructure facilities and improve port facilities.

The head of the Russian state invited all interested partners, primarily China, to more actively use the capabilities of the Northern Sea Route to increase trade operations with Europe, TASS reports.

Earlier it was reported that Russian experts discussed important issues related to the Northern Sea Route, including shipping in the Arctic.
