The head of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, instructed the government to conduct experiments on labeling packaged drinking water, beer and low-alcohol drinks, as well as make a decision on mandatory labeling of these goods. As reported on the Kremlin's website, this opportunity needs to be worked out by April 1, 2021.
The head of the Cabinet of Ministers Mikhail Mishustin was appointed responsible for the execution of the order.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade previously explained that the labeling of these products is necessary to protect consumers, since this area is especially prone to counterfeiting and falsification.
Recall that labeling experiments began in Russia in 2019. A two-dimensional code is used that is applied to the packaging and contains the product data. It is assumed that by 2024 a system for marking and tracking goods will be created. Now in the country, fur products, tobacco products, footwear and medicines are marked on a mandatory basis. On December 1, 2020, an experiment on jewelry labeling will start in Russia, and from January 1, 2021 it will become mandatory.
We add that the Cabinet is also considering the possibility of creating a single body to control labeling and excise taxes on tobacco and alcohol.
