Russian leader Vladimir Putin attaches particular importance to cooperation between the regions of Russia and Belarus. The President made the corresponding statement during negotiations with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko, RIA Novosti reports.
The head of state drew attention to the fact that meetings between the leaders of the regional administrative structures of the two countries are held annually.
“This is a very important work, because at the level of regional interaction a significant volume of our relations has developed,” Putin said.
The volume of humanitarian ties between states remains at a very high level, the President of the Russian Federation emphasized, stating the closeness of the peoples of Russia and Belarus. This connection, according to the politician, “goes deep into the centuries.”
“We are very close people, close peoples: culture, language, religion, shared history. It all unites us, ”explained Vladimir Putin.
The meeting of the Presidents of Belarus and Russia, Alexander Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin, took place on Monday in Sochi. The politicians discussed a wide range of issues, in particular, Russian-Belarusian relations, the international agenda and a number of other topics.
After working negotiations, Putin and Lukashenka can go skiing.
