Putin: mercenaries for riots in Kazakhstan were recruited through social networks

Certain forces were recruiting mercenaries and militants through social networks in order to destabilize the situation in Kazakhstan, said Russian President Vladimir Putin, RIA Novosti reports.

During the video conference of the CSTO countries, the head of state noted that, judging by the experience of recent events in Kazakhstan, “certain forces do not shy away from using” cyberspace and social networks to attract extremists and terrorists. According to Putin, such methods are used to create so-called sleeping cells of militants.

Earlier, Vladimir Putin said that Kazakhstan faced a threat to its statehood, he also called the events in the republic an act of aggression, to which it was necessary to respond immediately. Putin stressed that during the riots in Kazakhstan, “Maidan technologies” were used.
