Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Russian Foreign Ministry to negotiate with the United States to conclude an agreement on the extension of the treaty on the further reduction and limitation of strategic offensive arms (START), the corresponding document is posted on the official Internet portal of legal information.

Also on the portal on January 27, a decree was published that the Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Ryabkov will represent the President of the Russian Federation when the State Duma and the Federation Council consider the agreement on the extension of the START Treaty.

Earlier, the Russian Federation and the United States exchanged notes on the extension of the treaty on strategic offensive arms. During the first telephone conversation, Russian and American leaders Vladimir Putin and Joseph Biden expressed satisfaction with the process that had begun in reaching an agreement on the START extension.

We add that the State Duma and the Federation Council today can consider an agreement to extend the START Treaty for five years.
