Russian leader Vladimir Putin expressed the opinion that the attacks on Nord Stream 2 are explained by attempts to force the Russian Federation to pay for the West’s geopolitical project in Ukraine, TASS reports.
The Nord Stream 2 project envisages the laying of two lines of a gas pipeline from the Russian coast through the Baltic Sea to Germany. The United States actively opposes the construction of the pipeline, promoting its liquefied natural gas to Europe. Washington periodically imposes sanctions against the project.
Earlier, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said that the US administration does not intend to change its position on the issue of sanctions against Nord Stream 2. In turn, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov announced the full implementation of the project.
