Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev, according to the Kremlin website.
The politicians continued their discussion of the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh in accordance with the previous statements of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Putin and Aliyev raised issues of ensuring peace, security and progressive socio-economic development of the region. The restoration of transport communications was also discussed.
“It was agreed to intensify contacts in various formats,” the Kremlin added.
The day before, Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also discussed the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. The head of the Russian Federation called the normalization of the situation in this region an urgent and acute problem. In turn, Pashinyan noted that the presence of Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh is becoming an important factor in stability and security in the region.
