Russia will not allow attacks on the country’s sovereignty and external interference in the parliamentary elections. This was stated by President Vladimir Putin during a meeting with leaders of parliamentary factions on Wednesday, February 17.
It is necessary to protect the elections from any attempts of external interference, the head of state stressed. “We cannot and will not allow any blows to the sovereignty of Russia, by the right of our people to be the master in their land,” the president said.
All parliamentary factions are in solidarity with this position, the head of state stressed. Putin expressed hope that lawmakers will continue to take a strong state position.
Patriotic cohesion is especially needed for the country’s main parties, which have a real impact on society, ideology and traditions, Putin said. He called on parliamentarians to maintain party authority, to work not only with supporters, but also with neutral people and opponents.
The elections to the State Duma in 2021 must be open, fair and competitive, the head of state stressed. This is important both for the parties represented in parliament and for other political forces, Putin said.
This is of great importance for voters as well, the President noted. It is the citizens who will determine the results of the election campaign, concluded the head of state.
Earlier, the Public Chamber presented a training program for public election observers. The leading parties announced their support for the initiative.
