Putin congratulated Ortega on winning the presidential elections in Nicaragua

Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Nicaraguan leader Daniel Ortega on his re-election as president of the country. A message about this was conveyed to the head of Nicaragua by the Russian ambassador to Managua, Alexander Khokholikov, reports the government portal El 19 Digital.

The head of the Russian state noted that the voting results fully confirmed the political authority of Ortega, as well as support for the course of the Sandinista Front headed by him, whose activities, as the president stressed, are aimed at the socio-economic development of the republic, protection of its sovereignty and international positions.

According to Putin, Russian-Nicaraguan relations are based on a long tradition of friendship and mutual respect.

Elections in Nicaragua were held on November 7. The United States decided not to recognize the voting results, pointing out the illegitimacy of the elections. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow considers the corresponding decision of Washington unacceptable.
