Russian President Vladimir Putin attended a Christmas service at the Church of St. Nicholas on Lipno in the Novgorod Region, the Kremlin press service reports.
To get to Lipno Island, which is located eight kilometers south of Veliky Novgorod, the head of state used an air cushion boat from the Ministry of Emergencies.
The President appeared at the church a few minutes before midnight. Several dozen parishioners were with him in the church. Putin was wearing a jacket and a white knitted sweater.
Also, the head of the Russian Federation presented the parish with an icon “The Lord Almighty”. This image was painted in the tradition of 19th century Mstera icon painting with tempera paints. The case with a gilded frame and the salary, in turn, were made in the city of Shchigry in the workshops of the Holy Trinity Brotherhood.
Note that Putin traditionally chooses one of the churches in the regions of Russia for Christmas.
Earlier it was reported that the Christmas service was first held in the main church of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The service was attended by servicemen and members of their families, the leadership of the Ministry of Defense, civilian personnel of the Russian Armed Forces and parishioners of the church.
