Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that “in the end it is already necessary to replace the An-2.” The transcript of the event was published on the President’s official website.
According to Putin, the need for renewal in aviation is dictated by the size of Russia’s territory. “It is necessary to create the entire chain of domestic aviation equipment that would serve our citizens,” the president stressed.
In this regard, he urged to replace the An-2 with a new small aircraft “Baikal”. It was developed in the Ural design bureau, inside nine places. In 2021, a prototype should be created, and in 2024, serial production should begin, the head of state concluded.
Earlier, the President of Boeing in Russia and the CIS, Sergei Kravchenko, said that the Russian aircraft of the MC-21 model would be in demand on the civil aviation market.
