Putin and Pashinyan discussed the interaction of countries within the framework of the CSTO

Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the Kremlin press service reported.

It is noted that the telephone conversation took place on the initiative of Yerevan, the parties discussed the prospects for further cooperation within the CSTO, taking into account Armenia’s chairmanship in the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

In addition, Putin, at the request of Pashinyan, spoke about negotiations with the United States on security guarantees.

Recall that in the first days of January, protests began in the cities of Zhanozen and Aktau in Kazakhstan. The protesters protested against the doubling of prices for liquefied natural gas. Later, the protests spread to other cities in the country. As a result, the authorities declared a state of emergency. On January 6, the Collective Peacekeeping Forces of the CSTO from Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan arrived in Kazakhstan.

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that the authorities were forced to resort to outside help, as the republican army was unable to use its potential in a critical situation.
