Senator Alexei Pushkov expressed the opinion that Kiev will do everything to “drag” the North Atlantic Alliance into an armed conflict with the Russian Federation.
“Ukraine, led by its current aggressive and irresponsible government, will do everything to drag NATO into an armed conflict with Russia, even against the will of a number of member countries of the alliance,” he wrote in Telegram and added that the fear of Kiev’s inclusion in NATO should first of all the members of the alliance themselves.
On the eve of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Russia should not fear Ukraine’s entry into the North Atlantic Alliance. He noted that NATO’s actions are defensive.
Pushkov called Stoltenberg’s words naive and recalled the bombing of Yugoslavia by NATO forces in 1999, the actions of the alliance in Libya, as well as support for the aggression of Britain and the United States in Iraq.
In addition, the senator expressed the opinion that Washington is currently planning to involve the alliance in its strategy against China.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Ukraine’s entry into NATO would force Russia to make certain decisions. Diplomats believe that joining the alliance is an extremely dangerous step.
