The United States at many levels is holding consultations with the Russian side on the situation on the border with Ukraine, TASS reports with reference to the speech of the press secretary of the White House Jen Psaki.
According to her, diplomatic interaction is maintained between the United States and Russia, with Ukraine, European partners and NATO allies.
She recalled that recently there was a telephone conversation with the Russian side at the ministerial level, as well as a call from the Secretary of State. “We are, of course, engaging at many even lower levels,” she added.
Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Donbass on April 9 to inspect advanced positions and cheer up Ukrainian military personnel, and then announced on social networks the need for a new ceasefire.
Earlier, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that at the moment the escalation of tension in the Donbass is unprecedented. He added that the resumption of the civil war in Ukraine would pose a threat to Russia’s security. Against this background, the Russian army carried out large-scale troop movements in the Western and Southern military districts. The Kremlin assured that these maneuvers pose no threat to other countries.
At the same time, the United States announced the sending of warships to the Black Sea to support Ukraine.
