Omega-3 is a group of unsaturated fatty acids that are not reproduced in the body, and when they are deficient, various biochemical and physiological disorders occur. Our body cannot produce them on its own. Therefore, it is very important to get Omega-3s on a regular basis.

Omega-3 fats play a significant role in the human body. They include: alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosapentaenoic acid (DHA). These elements perform many functions in the human body. Their deficiency can provoke various diseases.

The impact of omega-3s on human health is truly mind-boggling. So, getting into our body with food, omega-3 fatty acids are introduced into the cells of the body. They not only influence their structure, but also activate them.

We list the main problems when omega-3 fats are vital for a person.

Speaking of Omega-3, one cannot ignore its “brother” – Omega-6.

Clinical studies have established that the ratio of omega-6 and omega-3 (especially linoleic and alpha-linoleic) fatty acids in the body also plays an important role. However, these data require confirmation, since scientific tests of such a correlation have not been conducted.

Both Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids are indispensable, that is, a person can get them only from food (including sports nutrition). Omega-3 and Omega-6 compete for the same enzymes. Thus, the ratio of these acids will affect the ratio of eicosanoids (their metabolic successors – hormones, mediators and cytokines) such as prostaglandins, leukotrienes, thromboxanes, which means that there will be a significant effect on the entire body.

Omega-6 metabolites can significantly increase inflammatory responses (especially arachidonic acid), unlike omega-3s. It follows from this that in order to maintain the balance of biologically active substances, Omega-3 and Omega-6 must be consumed in certain proportions.
