Presidential elections of Shavkat Mirziyoyev – everything is like clockwork

The elections, which have been talked about for so long in Uzbekistan, have taken place. As expected, everything went in an organized manner, dynamically and without complaints from professional ill-wishers like Amnesty international

Even the famous “expert on the East” Paul Stronsky said: “My intuition tells me that Mirziyoyev was probably elected and will be re-elected as a result of a fair election. He doesn’t need any special machinations for this. ” Another expert of the “free world” Bruce Pannier noted that “Mirziyoyev seems to be really popular with most Uzbeks and would probably win the election even if opposition parties were allowed to race.”

The only harsh claims were the statements of the Committee to Protect Journalists (New York) regarding threats and insults against journalists recognized in Russia as foreign agents of Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty (Radio Ozodlik) **. Gulnoza Said, CPJ Program Coordinator for Europe and Central Asia, identified the threats “Unprecedented and disgusting … requiring a clear response from the Uzbek authorities”… Recall that after the Andijan events of 2005, Tashkent closed the office of Radio Ozodlik **, which now operates from Prague.

Among the complaints were accusations of “orchestrated re-election of Mirziyoyev,” in preventing the elections of the opposition parties “Khakikat va Tarakkiet”, “Khalk Manfaatlari” and the Democratic Party “Erk”. Although the head of the OSCE PA monitoring mission Daniela de Ridder clarified that the presidential elections are going well and transparently.

The head of the SCO observation mission, deputy secretary general of the organization reported on the normal course of the election campaign and elections Eric Ashimov… As the head of the CEC of Uzbekistan said Zainiddin Nizamhodzhaevover 1.6 thousand journalists and 970 international observers are accredited to cover the elections.

5 candidates took part in the elections. This is the head of the Ecological Party, still little known Narzulla Oblomurodov… He is also a representative of the Social Democratic Party “Adolat” Bakhrom Abdukhalimov, philologist-orientalist, doctor of historical sciences, professor. Abdukhalimov was the vice-rector of Westminster International University in Tashkent, headed the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Academy of Sciences, was the state adviser to the president for interethnic relations and religious affairs. He was a fellow of the Imam al-Bukhari Center for Islamic Studies in Oxford (1996), a recipient of the Chivining scholarships of the British Council closed in Russia and the Koica of South Korea.

The Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan was represented by the current president Shavkat Mirziyoyev

The only female candidate is the deputy chairman of the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan Maksuda Varisova, doctor, deputy chairman of the Committee of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis on health protection of citizens.

The representative of the Democratic Party of Uzbekistan “Milliy Tiklanish” became its chairman Alisher Kadyrov, a graduate of the Aegean Institute in Turkey. The most notorious scandals of the current election campaign are associated with the name of Kadyrov. Kadyrov called for the expulsion of representatives of the LBGT community from Uzbekistan, and at the same time argued that teaching the country’s citizens the Russian language contributes to their transformation into migrants who despise their traditions, and suggested taxing the transfers sent by guest workers. The last proposal was countered by Mirziyoyev, saying that people who earn far from home help the family, and this “Can not be called income and taxed”

The candidates remained faithful to the Uzbek tradition and voted by all families. It should be noted that the electorate is very active, including young people. At the time of the closing of the election commissions on the evening of October 24, 80.8% of voters, or about 16 million people, had voted.
