State Duma deputies adopted in the first reading the presidential amendments to the law on the prosecutor's office. They must bring it into line with the new amendments to the Constitution.
Now the Prosecutor General, his deputies, prosecutors of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation (and prosecutors equated to them) will be appointed after consultations with the Federation Council and dismissed by the President of the Russian Federation. Earlier, the appointment of the heads of the supervisory departments of the regions was passed by the president on the proposal of the Prosecutor General (this also applied to his deputies).
The Federation Council will have a week to make a decision on the candidacy of the Prosecutor General and his deputies, and for the prosecutors of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation - 10 days.
The bill introduces a ban on the presence of foreign citizenship and residence permits for prosecutors. The same wording is now contained in the Constitution. At the same time, the bill specifies that in the event of the emergence of citizenship of another state or a residence permit, employees will have to notify management about this within five working days.
The all-Russian vote on amendments to the Constitution was held from June 25 to July 1, 2020. The changelog consisted of several hundred proposals. Some of them were initiated by President Vladimir Putin. According to the results of processing 100% of ballots, 77.92% were in favor of the amendments, 21.27% were against the changes.
