Popova urged coronavirus patients not to drink alcohol on New Year’s Eve

The head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova, on the air of the Russia-24 TV channel, urged Russians undergoing treatment for COVID-19 not to drink alcohol on New Year’s Eve.

“Taking medications is incompatible with taking alcohol, this is an absolute axiom,” she emphasized, and at the same time noted that each individual case should be discussed with a doctor.

Earlier, a narcologist said that drinking alcohol while contracting a coronavirus infection can change the shape of the course of the disease. He recalled that many drugs used to treat COVID-19 are incompatible with alcoholic beverages. First of all, according to him, we are talking about antibiotics and anticoagulants.

In December, the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko said that during the New Year holidays, the work of medical organizations in Russia will be strengthened in several directions. In particular, one of them will be to provide assistance to those infected with the coronavirus.
