Pompeo called the PRC Consulate General in Houston “spy nest”

United States Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said that the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Houston was a "spy nest", TASS reports.

Pompeo noted that the Chinese authorities are trying to undermine American democracy and stressed that Washington cannot allow this. According to him, one of such measures was the closure of the Chinese Consulate General in Texas.

He also explained that measures against Beijing are being taken not only through the State Department, but also through the Ministry of Justice and the FBI.

We will remind, the US authorities demanded from China to close the diplomatic mission in Houston (Texas). The PRC stated that this was a gross violation of international law and a deliberate attempt to undermine relations with Beijing, but later Chinese diplomats vacated the consulate building.

Earlier, the United States accused employees of the PRC Consulate General in Houston of espionage, while China denied these accusations.
