Senators from the US Republican Party are confident in the adoption of sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project proposed by Texas Senator Ted Cruise, Politico reports, citing a source in the party.
According to the newspaper, the vote on this bill should take place before January 14. For the document to be adopted, 60 votes will be required, in connection with which the Republicans will have to enlist the support of at least ten Democrats.
“We will win this vote by an overwhelming majority,” the source said.
According to Cruz’s bill, sanctions against SP-2 can be introduced within 15 days after the document is approved. Also, Congress will have the right to vote for the re-introduction of restrictive measures in the event that US President Joe Biden decides to cancel them.
According to Politico correspondents, the vote is part of a deal to approve Biden’s nominees for State Department posts. If the sanctions against the Russian gas pipeline are waived, Cruz promised to prevent the approval of dozens of candidates for these positions.
We will remind, earlier the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Robert Habek said that the certification of “Nord Stream – 2” is being carried out in accordance with the law.
