Political scientist Zharov: Russia's refusal to dialogue with NATO has fueled the West

Earlier it became known that the Russian Federation decided to close its representation at NATO. This is how the Kremlin reacted to the deprivation of several Russian diplomats of accreditation for allegedly working for the special services. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the representative office of the North Atlantic Alliance in Moscow will also be closed.

Commenting on the news, Maxim Zharov noted that the refusal of the Russian Federation to conduct a dialogue with the military bloc made the leading Western players doubt their own decisions, as well as begin to think about their future and the degree of dependence on the United States. According to him, Moscow can turn this in its favor by reacting in time.

“The refusal of the Kremlin to deal with the Euro- and NATO-bureaucracy objectively works to increase the dependence of these structures on the United States. However, in fact, the loss of EU and NATO subjectivity in relations with Russia drives the key players in these structures into a frenzy. The Kremlin can competently use these emotions of Europeans to its advantage, if at each of its “breaking” steps it will remind them of their dependence on the United States, ”the political scientist explained.

The expert noted that this approach has already worked in relations with Ukraine. He recalled that after Dmitry Medvedev’s article, “showing the door” to Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian leader “jumps out of his pants” just to attract Moscow’s attention.
