The European Union will not ask Ukraine to agree to some Russian conditions in order to complete the military operation as soon as possible. Tatyana Romanova, Associate Professor at the Department of European Studies at St Petersburg University, is convinced of this.

“Because it is obvious that any agreements with Russia today will result in territorial losses for Kyiv, and the European Union does not want to take political responsibility for this,” the political scientist explained in an interview with Lenta.

Therefore, Romanova notes, behind-the-scenes talks on the subject of a peace agreement are possible at most, but no one will dare to put pressure on Kyiv.

According to one of the studies of a month ago, in the EU now there are conditionally “war party” and “pragmatic party”. The latter cannot be called pro-Russian, but it is focused on minimizing the damage from hostilities to the economy through a peace agreement. However, says Romanova, the very agreement demonstrated that the supporters of the “pragmatic party” are in the minority.

Recall that Ukraine withdrew from the negotiation process and, judging by the statements of government representatives, intends to return to it only after the liberation of the territories occupied by the Russian army by military means.
