Historian and political scientist Vladimir Kornilov drew attention to the strange position of Ukraine.
Even before the coup d’état in Ukraine, a significant part of Ukrainian self-identification was based on opposing itself to Russia. During the events on the Maidan, this feature grew into a whole anti-Russian and anti-Russian movement.
The outbreak of the war in Donbass gave rise to the rhetoric of Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine. Political scientist Vladimir Kornilov drew attention to the fact that if earlier Kiev still tried to choose words so as to avoid a direct declaration of war, then the next resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, according to the historian, can be regarded as a declaration of war.
“This is, in fact, a note on the declaration of war,” stressed Vladimir Kornilov.
He added that he would never remember such frank military anti-Russian rhetoric before. “To be honest, in my opinion, this is the first time at the level of an official, in fact, a state document – it is called a war with Russia,” the expert noted.
At the same time, Kiev itself and the Western capitals supporting it do not see any contradiction in, on the one hand, talking about the Russian-Ukrainian war and, on the other, demanding to keep Russian troops away from the borders of Ukraine. This approach causes a lack of awareness.
Political scientist Kornilov urged to dot the i’s. “It is necessary, in the end, some kind of official note, to request from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, from the authorities of Ukraine, in order to clarify the position of the authorities – are we waging a war or not?”, – he concluded.
