Ukraine – NATO Commission chaired by the President

Earlier on the air of the TV channel NVO, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that among the countries participating in the military bloc there is no consensus regarding Ukraine’s joining the organization. He also stressed that membership itself implies compliance with certain standards.

In an interview with FAN, Ivanov noted that both Ukraine and NATO are well aware of the senselessness of talking about Kiev’s entry into the North Atlantic Alliance. Discussions on this topic are encouraging for the Ukrainian audience and its politicians.

“Let’s just say that there is a game of ping-pong going on. Ukrainian politicians need to give something new to their internal audience. NATO leadership should publicly reassure Ukrainian politicians. However, everyone understands that Ukraine will never become a NATO member, ”the expert commented.

He explained that the entry of Kiev into the military bloc is contrary to the organization’s charter, including the clause on the absence of unresolved territorial disputes. A huge role is played by the unresolved conflict in Donbass and Ukraine’s claims regarding the return of the Crimean peninsula to Russia.

“In Ukraine itself, everyone who makes decisions has long understood the futility of the so-called European integration. Ukrainians know that they do not “fit” into Europe in any form. This fact has already been psychologically resigned. But politicians continue to constantly hear different statements, which, of course, cannot lead to anything, ”the political scientist summed up.

Earlier, the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Maxim Buzhansky ironically responded to London’s readiness to provide assistance to Ukraine. He admitted that it is difficult to imagine anything less than support for Poland in September 1939.
