President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy this year allowed himself to make some harsh statements about Russia. Political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky told how this affected the relations between the two countries.
The expert noted that Vladimir Zelensky often speaks nonsense. So, recently in an interview, the politician announced his readiness for general mobilization in the event of a war with Russia. “This is such a figure of speech – but not a position he thought out,” explained Mikhail Pogrebinsky.
In his opinion, this year relations between Moscow and Kiev returned to the state under the “late” ex-President Petro Poroshenko, when the Ukrainian politician was no longer regarded as a negotiable partner. Russian leader Vladimir Putin did not return his calls and avoided talking.
“It is still possible that Putin may also pick up the phone,” Pogrebinsky added.
The political scientist recalled another mistake of Vladimir Zelensky. His words about the equal responsibility of the USSR and Nazi Germany in unleashing the Second World War deeply touched Moscow. Now relations between Russia and Ukraine can only improve if the latter makes concessions.
In addition, Pogrebinsky said that the president of Ukraine has so far managed to maintain a trust rating. This is largely due to the fact that it has no worthy competition. If new elections were held in December, then Vladimir Zelensky would have won again.
