Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov told how the Kremlin views the detention of Mikhail Saakashvili in Georgia.
Journalists asked Peskov to comment on the situation with the former president of Georgia, ex-governor of the Odessa region of Ukraine, Mikhail Saakashvili. The politician was detained on Friday in Georgia after he secretly entered the country.
The press secretary of the Russian president noted that the Kremlin does not follow the fate of the Ukrainian-Georgian politician.
We are not interested in his fate,
– Peskov answered shortly.
Note that in his homeland, Saakashvili is a defendant in several criminal cases. The Georgian authorities have already announced that they are not going to grant the politician a pardon or raise the issue of his extradition.
It is noteworthy that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky managed to react to the situation with Saakashvili. He expressed concern over the detention of a Ukrainian citizen in Georgia. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova advised Zelensky to express concern about the political persecution of Ukrainian opposition politicians – Viktor Medvedchuk and Anatoly Sharia.
