Peskov spoke about the negotiations with the United States on arms control

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov commented on the situation with the negotiations between the Russian Federation and the United States on nuclear weapons. Earlier in the media, information appeared that the head of the United States, Donald Trump, plans to reach an agreement with Russia on this issue before the elections.

Peskov noted that he would not respond to publications, since there are many fakes. However, as the Kremlin spokesman explained, this topic is "hot" and is "a priority in contacts with the Americans."

He added that all positions are "well known" as are the "main stumbling blocks."

We are talking about the Treaty on the Reduction of Strategic Offensive Arms. START-3 was signed in 2010 and remains in force until February 5, 2021.

The document provides for the reduction of nuclear warheads to 1,550 units, intercontinental ballistic missiles, ballistic missiles of submarines and heavy bombers to 700 units.

By mutual agreement, the contract can be extended no more than until 2026. Moscow has repeatedly called on Washington not to delay the resolution of this issue, wrote.
