Peskov said that the governors can extend the covid restrictions

Governors have the right to extend restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic after the end of the all-Russian holiday regime. This was announced by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, reports TASS.

According to him, today there are special powers of the regions. Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a recent speech, urged the governors to use them more actively, Peskov added.

He stressed that the heads of the regions can extend the non-working days for the period that they deem necessary. According to him, “everything depends on the specific state of affairs in each separate region.”

Recall that Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the introduction of non-working days throughout the country from October 30 to November 7 to reduce the burden on the healthcare system due to the spread of COVID-19.

Earlier, the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, said that non-working days in Russia are not a lockdown. They provide people with the opportunity to communicate more with their families and spend time outdoors, she said.
