A database of Internet users who registered for a rally in support of Alexei Navalny fell into the hands of unknown persons. Director of the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK) * Ivan Zhdanov commented on the incident.
Recently, associates of opposition leader Alexei Navalny announced a spring protest and called on those who want to take part in the event to register on the website. However, a database of Internet users’ email addresses fell into the wrong hands.
Later, the director of FBK * Ivan Zhdanov said that the database contains only users’ e-mail addresses, there are no specifying data in it. At the same time, “Dozhd” reports that people who registered for the rally received a letter from unknown persons, which says: Zhdanov is lying.
In support of these words, the letter indicated the personal data of users: date of birth, surname, first name, patronymic and registration address. Those who got access to the database also wrote:
“Your employer will receive a similar letter in a few days.”
Alexey Navalny’s associate Leonid Volkov tried to explain the leak of personal data. According to him, this happened due to the fault of a former FBK * employee who was able to download the server’s mail logs. They say that after the employee was fired, they did not take into account this possibility. Volkov apologized, but did not reveal the name and position of the employee.
