United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has contracted the coronavirus. This is stated in a statement by the head of the military department, published on Sunday on the official website of the Pentagon.
“I requested testing after I developed symptoms while I was at home on vacation,” Austin said.
According to him, the test for COVID-19 gave a positive result. He is now also showing “mild symptoms” of the disease.
The minister intends to comply with the quarantine at home. He also informed US President Joe Biden about his diagnosis.
“My last meeting with Biden was on Tuesday, December 21, more than a week before my first symptoms began,” Austin added.
Earlier it was also reported that Australian Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce was infected with the coronavirus during a working visit to the United States.
