Pelosi wants to increase funding for protection from US “internal enemies”

The speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi announced the need to increase funding for the security of the Capitol and its protection from “internal enemies”, writes The Independent.

According to Nancy Pelosi, after the storming of the Capitol by supporters of former President Donald Trump, more and more Congressmen are worried about their safety. The Speaker of the House of Representatives herself is confident that there is both an external and an internal threat.

This is the reason for the increased spending on the congressional building security system, she said.

Some of the congressmen who supported Trump’s impeachment have received threats recently, according to the newspaper. The head of the congressional building police also announced the need to strengthen security, the newspaper writes.

The attack on the Congress building took place on January 6. Donald Trump’s supporters rushed into the premises, thereby interrupting the meeting at which they were supposed to approve the results of the last November presidential elections.

Trump was later impeached by the House of Representatives on charges of inciting mutiny. Republicans and Democrats have agreed on an appropriate timetable for the trial, which leaves Senators two weeks to prepare and write their arguments. Consideration of impeachment in the US Senate is due on February 9.
