The Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States Congress, Nancy Pelosi, said that an independent commission will be created in the country to investigate the January 6 riots in the Capitol, reports TASS.
“Based on the findings of the impeachment process, it is clear that we need to find out the truth about what happened,” she said, and noted that she considered it necessary to allocate additional funds to protect lawmakers and the building of Congress.
In addition, Pelosi called the riots a terrorist attack. She explained that the independent commission will be created “in the manner of the commission on the events of September 11, 2001”.
The attack on the Congress building took place on January 6. Donald Trump’s supporters rushed into the premises, interrupting the meeting at which they were supposed to approve the results of the last November presidential election.
Trump was later impeached by the House of Representatives on charges of inciting mutiny. On Saturday, the Senate acquitted Trump through impeachment proceedings.
