Patriarch Kirill defrocked rebellious schema-monk Sergius

Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia approved the decision of the court of the Yekaterinburg diocese, which deprived the rank of schema-abbot Sergiy Romanov for violating the priestly oath, monastic vows, a number of Apostolic rules and the rules of the Ecumenical Councils. This was reported by the press service of the Patriarchate.

The decision of the diocesan court said that the priest "openly violated the orders of the ruling bishop prohibiting him from performing divine services, addressing public sermons, wearing a pectoral cross, and also leaving the territory of the St. John Theological Monastery for men without a written blessing." The court also established "facts of lies and slander" in Sergius's speeches.

The fact that he stopped commemorating the patriarch and the ruling bishop during divine services was qualified by the court as a violation of canonical norms, the press service recalled. "By his actions, the schema-abbot Sergiy (Romanov) violated the oath when he was ordained to the priesthood, which he signed on December 24, 2001," the court's decision said.

Skhiigumen Sergiy Romanov is a dissident covid, Interfax reports. In the spring, videos of his speeches were distributed on the Internet, in which he called the coronavirus pandemic a myth, cursed the priests who closed churches due to the epidemic, and urged them not to obey the church leadership and secular authorities.

At the end of April, the patriarch introduced responsibility for priests for violating self-isolation requirements introduced in the regions and promised that church courts would take care of them.

Schema-abbot Sergius was first banned from sermons and public statements. At the end of May, he was banned from ministry for violating this restriction. When the diocesan court began to consider his case, the schema-abbot seized the Sredneuralsky convent, in which he was a confessor, and still refuses to leave it. First the abbess left the monastery, then other nuns and inhabitants. On July 3, the diocesan court deprived the schema-abbot of the rank.

During the confrontation with the official church, Father Sergius managed to urge the patriarch to resign, demand that President Vladimir Putin transfer power to him to restore order and urge him not to vote for amendments to the Constitution.

On July 6, Metropolitan Kirill of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye, in an open letter to Schema-monk Sergius, reproached him for lying, praising Stalin and urged him to repent. In particular, he called Sergius' own assertion that Patriarch Alexy II persuaded him to accept the priesthood, despite his conviction for murder, not true. Sergius replied that he was expecting repentance from the Metropolitan.

According to Raisa Ilyina, a former employee of Pravoslavnaya Gazeta (publication of the Yekaterinburg diocese), Father Sergiy (in the world - Nikolai Vasilyevich Romanov, born in 1955) had previously lived in the city of Pushkino, Moscow Region. He graduated from police school, and in the mid-1980s received two convictions. In 1985, the Pushkin City Court found him guilty under Part 2 of Article 211 of the RSFSR Criminal Code (violation of traffic safety rules resulting in injury or death) and Part 3 of Article 89 of the RSFSR Criminal Code (theft of state or public property), sentencing him to 4 years in prison ...

In 1986, the same court found him guilty under paragraphs "a, d, f" of Article 102 (murder), part 1 of Article 144 (theft) and part 2 of Article 146 (robbery) of the RSFSR Criminal Code, sentencing him to 13 years in prison. These data are confirmed by a certificate from the main information and analytical center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, wrote

The media reported that Sergiy was the confessor of the former Crimean prosecutor and State Duma deputy Natalia Poklonskaya, as well as the nephew of the "king of the Russian mafia" Ded Khasan, the thief in law Timur Sverdlovsky (Timur Mirzoev), who died in January 2014. Earlier, the crime boss and future father Sergiy served their sentences together in the Tagil colony. Mirzoyev even went to the "gathering", having received the blessing of a clergyman.
