Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Russia will not stand aside in case of encroachment on the Syunik region by Tehran.
“The Armenian troops are deployed in such a way that in the event of an encroachment on Syunik, not only the Armed Forces of our country, but also the Russian Federation will intervene,” the Public Television of Armenia is quoted as saying.
Pashinyan explained that the deployment of new combat posts of the Azerbaijani army could threaten the security of residents of border settlements in Syunik region. The politician noted that at present, the main task is to ensure security.
Earlier it was reported that Armenia and Azerbaijan, with the mediation of Russia, intend to hold negotiations to clarify the border between the two countries. Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Tigran Avinyan specified that an interdepartmental group is currently working along the entire border line in the Syunik region, and legal documents are being prepared.
