Flirting with Turkey is dangerous, warns PM
Prime Minister of Armenia Nicole Pashinyan announced at a government meeting that the authorities are ready to normalize relations with Turkey, which will lead to the revival of communications in the region, in particular, the resumption of traffic on the Armenian-Turkish railway.
“In these statements, we see an opportunity to discuss the normalization of Armenia-Turkey relations, the restoration of road and rail links. We are ready for such a conversation, which can get a broader context. By and large, we are talking about the transformation of our region into a crossroads connecting West with East, North with South. Russia has demonstrated its public readiness to actively support this process. The EU, France and the USA are also interested in this process ”,
– said Pashinyan.
Thus, the head of the Armenian government responded to the appeal of the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan normalize Turkish-Armenian relations.
The Turkish President stressed a week ago that Ankara is ready to work with all parties, despite differences of opinion, mutually recognizing each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
“If Yerevan is ready to move in this direction, Ankara can start work on gradual normalization of relations with Armenia. It is time to make stability and peace permanent, create conditions for economic development and regional cooperation “,
– noted Erdogan.
However, the deputy of the opposition parliamentary faction “Armenia” Aghvan Vardanyan warns – flirting with Turkey is dangerous, because Ankara’s priority is not peace in the region, but the promotion of its interests, and it has always been that way.
The deputy also reminded about the conditions on which Turkey is ready to “normalize” relations – refusal of demands to recognize the Armenian genocide at the beginning of the last century and recognition of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, which means a voluntary renunciation of Nagorno-Karabakh.
Türkologist talks about danger Varuzhan Geghamyan – Armenia is ready to embark on the path of transformation into a “cultural autonomy” dependent on Turkey.
According to the head of the party “Yerkir Tsirani” (“Country of Apricot”) Zaru Postanjyan, today it is necessary to think not about the normalization of relations with enemies, but about the fact that the country is again on the verge of a full-scale war: the Turkish-Azerbaijani military exercises right at the borders of Armenia are not accidental, just like the construction of the airport in Kovsakan.
“Now there are global processes of redistribution of borders, a new political map of the world is being drawn, and these processes also concern us. No need to wait for help, no need to shift the issues of ensuring your own security to other countries, even to strategic partners. It is important to realize the realities, arm and strengthen your defense potential “,
– said the politician.
