Forward of the National Hockey League (NHL) Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin will miss the World Cup in Latvia. This was reported on Twitter by the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (FHR).
The FHR said that the 35-year-old athlete will not be able to play for the Russian national team in the tournament due to a large number of injuries.
Ovechkin was not on the Russian national team at the World Cup, as he was busy in the NHL playoffs, where the Capitals played the Boston Bruins in the first round. The capital club lost the series 1: 4 and ended the fight for the Stanley Cup.
As part of the Russian national team, Ovechkin won the world championship three times – in 2008, 2012, 2014. He also won silver twice and bronze four times. In 2018, the forward won the Stanley Cup with Washington.
