The press service of the aquarium in the US state of Georgia reported that Asian otters were infected with COVID-19.
The animals reportedly developed mild respiratory symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, mild lethargy, and some began to cough.
“We are pleased to announce that they are doing well and a full recovery is expected. They are not shown and are supervised by our expert health and animal care teams, ”the organization said in a Facebook post.
It is also noted that the animals could have contracted the infection from an asymptomatic employee, since they do not have direct contact with the guests.
Earlier, scientists from the Pathology Department of the School of Medicine at Dalhousie University in Canada expressed concerns about the risk of contamination of marine animals with the new coronavirus.
According to experts, together with the wastewater of Alaska, SARS-CoV-2 can enter the World Ocean and infect its inhabitants.
