Osaka authorities reluctant to hold Olympic torch relay due to COVID

The authorities of the western Japanese prefecture of Osaka are asking to abandon the Olympic torch relay on the territory of the administrative center and the third largest city in the country, Osaka, writes TASS.

Prefectural Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura urged people to refrain from unnecessarily leaving their homes, and also said that the Olympic torch relay in Osaka should be stopped.

Recall that the Olympic torch relay began on March 25 at the football training center in Fukushima. The first torchbearers were the players of the country’s women’s national football team.

The race is to last 121 days, and the torch will be carried in all 47 Japanese prefectures.

Earlier it became known that one of the participants in the Olympic torch relay almost completely ran his section with the torch extinguished.
